ASSESSMENTS
At Happy Hall Schools, students are evaluated across seven key skill areas, ensuring a comprehensive approach to their development. Assessments are conducted throughout the school year, with data and observations gathered for discussion during biannual parent-teacher conferences.
Assessment Areas and Methodology
-
Cognitive & Problem-Solving – Our curriculum strengthens cognitive processes such as memory, attention, and flexible thinking. Through puzzles, games, and engaging tasks, students develop problem-solving skills essential for navigating challenges with confidence.
-
Health & Safety – Students learn essential health and safety habits, including personal hygiene, basic safety rules, and self-care practices, which help them understand how to maintain their well-being and consider the safety of others.
-
Language & Literacy – Focused on enhancing communication skills, our program expands vocabulary and language usage, while reading and storytelling activities build strong reading and writing foundations that encourage expressive and effective communication.
-
Math & Science – By engaging in hands-on experiments and foundational math concepts, students develop critical thinking and logical reasoning skills, laying the groundwork for scientific exploration and problem-solving.
-
Fine & Gross Motor – Activities designed to improve both fine and gross motor skills encourage physical health, coordination, and dexterity, promoting movement and engagement that support overall physical development.
-
Social-Emotional – Through guided activities that foster empathy, cooperation, and self-regulation, our program helps students build interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, key for positive social interactions and self-awareness.
Observations and Conferences
Each skill area includes specific class goals for the year and outlines the curriculum used to achieve these goals. Observations are tailored to each child and documented in two phases:
-
Fall Observations - These initial assessments are reviewed during the mandatory winter conference, providing insights into early development and progress.
-
Spring Observations - Evaluated during the optional summer conference, these observations highlight advancements and areas needing continued focus as the school year concludes.
This structured assessment framework at Happy Hall Schools not only tracks individual progress but also supports tailored educational approaches, ensuring each child receives the guidance needed to thrive academically and personally.
