ABOUT STRATA
About Strata Learning Collective
Strata Learning Collective is an education organization serving children from infancy through school age. We design and operate learning environments that support children’s growth, confidence, and connection over time.

Our programs span early learning, before and after-school care, and camps. Across all settings, Strata focuses on creating environments where children feel supported, capable, and engaged in meaningful learning experiences shaped by intentional design and experienced educators.

Strata was created to reflect how learning actually develops. Children build understanding gradually through exploration, reflection, and collaboration. We believe learning is strongest when children are given time to explore ideas deeply, guidance from skilled educators, materials that invite inquiry and problem-solving, and opportunities to learn alongside others. Our programs reflect years of experience working with children and families and a commitment to learning that grows in depth and complexity over time.

Strata programs are operated with a focus on consistency, accountability, and thoughtful oversight. Our organizational structure supports clear standards and stable operations, allowing educators and leaders to focus on learning environments and program quality while remaining responsive to the needs of families, schools, and community partners.
Partnership With Families
Families are essential partners in the learning process at Strata. Strong relationships, clear communication, and shared understanding support children’s growth across all ages and programs.

Strata educators work closely with families to create continuity between home and program experiences. Communication focuses on learning progress, engagement, and development over time rather than isolated outcomes or daily tasks. Families receive insight into how children are growing, interacting, and building skills within the program.

Partnership is grounded in trust and consistency. Educators value collaboration, approach conversations with care, and remain responsive to family perspectives. This shared commitment supports children’s confidence, belonging, and long-term growth.
Our Layers
Strata Learning Collective is built through layers of experience, leadership, and practice developed over time.

Our work is informed by the legacy of Happy Hall Schools, an organization that has served families on the San Francisco Peninsula for decades. Over time, this foundation has been shaped by thoughtful leadership, steady growth, and a deep commitment to children, families, and educators.
Mary Lou Johnson played a pivotal role in shaping these early layers. Her leadership emphasized care for children, respect for educators, and the importance of thoughtful, well-run programs. These principles continue to inform how Strata approaches learning, program design, and community today.

Strata reflects a modern, evolving approach to education, intentionally built upon the layers that came before. Each layer adds depth, clarity, and strength to the work we do now.
LEADERSHIP TEAM
Meet the team guiding Strata Learning Collective.

Our leadership team brings experience across education, operations, and organizational development, along with a shared belief that strong programs are built through thoughtful leadership, collaboration, and care. We work closely with educators, families, and partners to support high-quality learning environments where both children and staff can thrive.

Behind the planning and structure, we’re a group that values creativity, flexibility, and showing up fully for the communities we serve.
